Update on my 3gs battery issues

iPhone updates to 3.1.2 and updates to carrier settings. Next, the battery runs down fast 2hrs and takes forever to charge 3 hrs. It also is warm on the bottom and under the glass.
Found a post on and apple forum about a guy who restored to new and then restored from a earlier backup and the battery issues went away.
I did this last night and can say also this did te trick. It took 20 mins but today the battery and power seem normal.
